What is education like in Poland

This country is chosen for its status as an influential representative of the EU. Having collaborated with Polish universities for several years, we have seen that they adhere to high standards of education and offer excellent learning conditions. We recommend considering this option if you:

  • are ready to study for 2 to 5 years;
  • are looking for programs in English or Polish;
  • are choosing between public and private educational institutions.

Thanks to its geographical proximity, international partnerships, and similar mentality, studying in Poland is a popular option for Ukrainian students.

Admission to higher education institutions in Poland

Applicants have the opportunity to apply during two admission campaigns per year.

The first campaign is in the summer.

  • Student enrollment period: May 1 to August 28
  • Start of the semester: October 1.

The second session is in the winter.

  • Student enrollment period: November 1 to February 28.
  • Start of the semester: March 1.

To be admitted to a state-funded (budget) position, Ukrainian students must provide the results of the National Multi-Test (NMT), and in some institutions, take entrance exams.

Self-funded (paid) education in Poland is the best option for Ukrainians because of its moderate prices and the fact that no exams are required for admission on a contract basis. Foreign students are admitted based on a competitive selection process. The average grade of the high school certificate and knowledge of Polish or English sufficient for communicating with native speakers are essential here.

Thanks to “cross-admission,” students can obtain bachelor’s and master’s degrees in various specialties.

Postgraduate (secondary higher) education is also popular in this country and is available to people of all ages.

Advantages of studying in Poland

High standards of education

Poland has been teaching in accordance with the Bologna Process since 1999. During this time, the state has developed its education system to a level that complies with the International Standard Classification of Education ISCED.

European-style diploma

With a European diploma, graduates do not wonder whether their knowledge and skills will suit the market. They apply for jobs with confidence, knowing that this is compelling argument in favor of their qualifications and a guarantee that the position will match their level.

Language variations

Virtually all higher education in Poland is bilingual: there are English-language and Polish-language programs. Everyone studies English, and upon graduation, they have a high academic level of proficiency in the language. The lexical composition of Polish is 70% identical to Ukrainian, so our students learn it quite easily.

Freedom in the international arena

Academic mobility includes exchange and internship programs within the EU and many other countries. Students of Polish higher education institutions have a significant advantage — a national student visa, allowing them to travel throughout Europe.

Affordable cost

Compared to other European countries, tuition fees in Poland are among the lowest. The range is from €1,000 to €5,000 per year at different institutions.

Work and study

Depending on their visa, students are allowed to work officially for a certain number of hours during their studies or vacations. They can also transition to a different type of residency permit that allows them to engage in full-time professional activities.

Frequently asked questions about studying in Poland

What documents are required for admission to a Polish university?

According to the minimum list, applicants must prepare: a secondary education certificate or bachelor’s degree with a transcript, a medical certificate, copies of passports, a tax identification code, a birth certificate (for minors), and a visa. Some higher education institutions require additional documents.

What level of language proficiency is required: Polish and English?

Polish higher education institutions require students to have at least a basic level of Polish or English: to understand the teacher, communicate with those around them, and conduct official communication. That is, they must have a B1-B2 level. This is checked during an interview or by requesting a Polish Language Certificate (Certyfikat Języka Polskiego) to confirm the level of Polish and IELTS Academic (from 5.5 points), TOEFL iBT (from 72 points) or Cambridge B2 First (FCE) certificates with a grade of C or higher.

When should I submit my application documents?

We recommend submitting your documents before the New Year, as the main influx of applications occurs in early spring and often ends by the end of May. The earlier you apply, the more likely you are to get into your desired major and receive early-bird discounts.

Do you assist with obtaining a student visa?

Yes, we help you fill out the visa application form and submit all the necessary documents to obtain permission to travel abroad, and we also accompany the student throughout the entire admission process. To get help, please contact an AP University manager. In addition to visas, we also help you gather the right documents, arrange insurance, provide financial confirmation, and understand the conditions for obtaining a visa and living in Poland.

Are Polish diplomas recognized outside the country?

Yes, diplomas from Polish higher education institutions are recognized in all EU countries. The State Accreditation Committee oversees the education system in Poland, and its job is to make sure that state education programs meet the standards of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). That’s why Polish educational institutions are recognized.

Are there programs for applicants who do not know Polish?

Polish higher education institutions offer programs in English, as students from all over the world come to Poland to study every year. Many Poles also study in English. To enroll in an English-language program, you must provide a certificate of English language proficiency: TOEFL (60–78 points), IELTS (no less than 5.5 points), or other proof of English proficiency recognized by the educational institution.
